Asking God to remove problems from our life - Decide, Refine & Produce

Asking God to remove problems from our life.

Throughout the scriptures we see many promises and blessings. Blessings that God will prosper us, give us a long life, that it will go well with our children and to give us shalom (peace). However not many today are experiencing those things.

Why? We go to church, try to be a good person but there is always so much trouble and obstacles in our lives.

Lets take for example God's shalom - His peace. Many think that His shalom means being free from the troubles of life and those 'problem people' around us. However do we see this in the bible?

Ever since the fall of Adam & Eve in the garden, we see that life is full of troubles. Imagine the times of war, bondage, slavery of individuals and the nation of Israel in the scriptures. Yes we see God delivering people be never do we see Him totally removing all obstacles in our life. Perhaps there are a few reasons for this. In light of this perhaps we need to change our perspective - from being selfish to selfless in the following areas.

1. Decide

2. Refine

3. Produce

Decide - scripture states we have to die to self. In other words we are not just dealing with sin, which is the transgression of God's law/torah. God wants to deal with our heart and flesh - to see that we do not have to choose the ways of the world. When God saw thatt Cain was thinking about killing Abel, He said...

"So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:6-7

You see even in the Old Testament we see that mankind had a choice to act on the fleshly desires or not. We have a decision to make. However most people who think God's instructions have been done away don't know they have a decision when it comes to sining or not. Many also don't examine themselves daily to see if they are in the faith nor do they 'die to self' and participate in growing and maturing in the Lord. Its not gaining head knowledge but growing in relationship with the Father. Its about choosing to submit to Him the things in our life that get in the way of that relationship (our flesh and acting on satisfying that flesh, which is sin, which results in sin). Perhaps its time we learn what it is to submit to Him and His word, then decide to rule over the fleshly desires rather than give in to the temptations of the flesh.

Refine - the refining process has been likened to heating up gold or silver to such high temperatures that the impurities float to the top and are removed. Is it possible that God uses some of the troubles in our life to refine us? Yes. So instead of asking God to remove all troubles from our lives perhaps we have to ask "God is there something in my life that needs to be repented of?" If we are being refined what does that lead to?

Produce - So many times in the scriptures we see references to bringing for or producing 'good fruit'. When we are refined then we can produce good fruit and help those around us. Good fruit is the by product of having a relationship with the Father by what the Messiah did on the cross for us. Yeshua (Jesus) produced good fruit all the time and scripture states He is our example on how to live.

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27

In the book of Matthew Yeshua takes about good fruit in chapter 7 and in James 3:17 we see that we are to...

"... first be pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy".

Notice we cannot do these things unless we know we have choice to sin or not. We have to understand we need refining and then as those things of the flesh are identified by God and His word, He does the work of removing those unhealthy desires that get in way of our relationship. Once we see that work accomplished then we can produce good fruit toward others; which is a by product of our relationship with the Father.

So during these days of troubles and stress - instead of asking God to remove all these things from you life, perhaps take some time to ask Him if there is anything in your life that needs removed. Then as our relationship with Him becomes closer, then we can be the witness to those around us.

Shalom

Stephen
