Whaaat? Sabbath & Feasts in the New Millennium?

If you have been involved in American Christianity for a while you have probably heard and/or been taught that the Sabbath and the Feasts of the Lord (our Elohim) have been done away with. That these things were only for the Jews, only for the people of the Old Testament, not for New Covenant believers, etc. Many will try and use New Testament scriptures to prove their point. So this should settle this right?

The problem is if the Sabbaths and Feasts have been done away with, why do we see these things, which our Father commanded to be observed forever, in the New Millennium? You see no matter how many New Testament scriptures people use to claim these things have been done away with, they cannot dispute that these things are observed forever. I have spoken to a number of believers, bible college/seminary students, pastors and bible study leaders who have never been able to explain away these passages.

Have you ever seen these scriptures? If not lets go them now (it should be noted that all these passages are about the New Millennium)...

1. Isaiah 56:1-7 (Salvation for the Gentiles)

56 Thus says the Lord: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, For My salvation is about to come, And My righteousness to be revealed. 2 Blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who lays hold on it; Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

3 Do not let the son of the foreigner Who has joined himself to the Lord Speak, saying, “The Lord has utterly separated me from His people”; Nor let the eunuch say, “Here I am, a dry tree.” 4 For thus says the Lord: “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, And choose what pleases Me, And hold fast My covenant, 5 Even to them I will give in My house And within My walls a place and a name Better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name That shall not be cut off.

6 “Also the sons of the foreigner Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him, And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants— Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And holds fast My covenant— 7 Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices Will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

Note: This passage is about how salvation will come to the gentiles, which we do not see until AFTER the death and resurrection of Yeshua (when our Father sent Peter to Corneilius home in the book of Acts). If the Sabbaths had been done away with, then our Father would have stated such through the prophet Isaiah but He did not (please read Amos 3:7 where our Elohim reveals things to His people via His prophets). 2. Zechariah 14:16-17

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain.

Note: This passage again deals with a time after the battle of Armagedon and during the New Millennium. Notice it states that the nations who came against the Messiah are mentioned. This shows that the Feast of Tabernacles, one of the feasts that our Elohim commanded to be observed forever. Clearly the feasts are observed by everyone, including those that came against the Messiah. 3. Isaiah 33:20-24

Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quite home, a tabernacle that will not be taken down; not one of its stakes will ever be removed, nor will any of its cords be broken. But there the majestic Lord will be for us a place of broad rivers and streams, in which no galley with oars will sail, nor majestic ships pass by for the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our king; He will save us... and the inhabitant will not say "I am sick"; the people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.

Note: Again another passage that mentions the appointed feasts of our Elohim, being obsereved during a still future time, the New Millennium. It does not say the feasts were done away with but the feasts are a constant just as Jerusalem will be.

4. Ezekiel chapters 45-46

There are so many examples and proofs of the feasts being observed in the New Millennium in these two chapters a single blog post can't contain them all. So I will just post a few highlights... All the poeple of the land shall give this offering for the prince in Israel. Then it shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the feasts, the New Moons, the Sabbaths, and at all the appointed seasons of the house of Israel. He shall prepare the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings ot make the atonement for the house of Israel." Ezekiel 45:16-17

Note: Again more proof of the feasts and the sabbaths being observed during the New Millennium. Now some people will say that 'this can't be right because it mentions a sin offering!". Please know that Yeshua's death on the cross was THE final sacrifice for sin; this passage says sin offering - that means its not another sacrifice for sin but a rememberance of what sin is and what results from that. Still the fact remains this passage is references the sabbaths and feasts after the return of the Messiah. There is so much more in these two chapters - matter of fact in chapter 45:18-25 talks specifically about keeping the feasts. If we look at chapter 46 see the following on the manner of worship, which also includes the Sabbath and feasts...

“But when the people of the land come before the Lord on the appointed feast days, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate; and whoever enters by way of the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate. He shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but shall go out through the opposite gate. 10 The prince shall then be in their midst. When they go in, he shall go in; and when they go out, he shall go out. 11 At the festivals and the appointed feast days the grain offering shall be an ephah for a bull, an ephah for a ram, as much as he wants to give for the lambs, and a hin of oil with every ephah. 12 “Now when the prince makes a voluntary burnt offering or voluntary peace offering to the Lord, the gate that faces toward the east shall then be opened for him; and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings as he did on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and after he goes out the gate shall be shut." Ezekiel 46:9-12 Note: If you continue reading into chapter 47 you will see that these passages are indeed referencing the New Millennium - the healing waters, the trees that will give forth their fruit every month and their leaves will be used for medicine. The verses after that talk about the new boarders for Israel.

5. Zechariah 8

This passage reveals so much about what will happen after the return of the Messiah, let us look at see if the feasts are again mentioned...

"Thus says the Lord of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, inhabitants of many cities; The inhabitants of one city shall go to another saying, 'Let us continue to go and pray before the Lord, and seek the Lord of hots. I myself will go also.' Yes many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the fringes of a Jewish man, saying, 'Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you." Note: Not only do we see fasting, we also see the feasts being observed. We see that men from every language and nation will come and worship the Father, our Elohim. Some might say this only pertains to the Jews but according to Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles states we are grafted into Israel according to Romans 11 and other New Testament passages. In conclusion

We see the Sabbaths and Feasts have not been done away with; we see that they are observed by all who follow the Father and the Messiah when He returns during the New Millennium. The question is, are you prepared to give up the doctrines and traditions of men? To shape and mold your life around the scriptures, instead of defending what we want to believe? These truths will be very hard for some to swallow. Some will reject them, others will take time to test what they believe and see what the scriptures really teach. Some will ask the question "What is the Sabbath?" and "What are the Feasts?" Others will spend lots of time in prayer asking the Father if they should start observing these things. I cannot give you the answers on what you are to do, but study the scriptures and seek our Elohim and what He lays on your heart to do. Let me leave you with this scritpure from Yeshua, our Messiah...

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-20

Shalom, Stephen
