Flat Earth Conspiracy? Where is the word 'flat'?

Recently I had an individual who said “He (God) never said it (the earth) was a “globe”, case closed.” Another person said “The bible says the earth has four corners in Isaiah 11:10-12 so that proves the earth is flat!” Seriously? First off the word “globe” was not used in scripture because that word ‘globe’ originated around the mid 15th century. Apparently flat earthers don't look at the origins or definitions of words be they Latin, English or Hebrew. Or do they consider words that are NOT in scripture..

Let me explain.

In all of scripture (OT and NT,) the earth is NEVER described as FLAT (the Hebrew word שָׁטוּחַ). However in Isaiah 40:22 the flat earthers say the earth is referred to as a 'circle' in English, which flat earth's say is not round but a flat disc, thus proving the world is flat. But in scripture the word ‘flat’ is not found in Isaiah 40:22. So according the individual’s own logic the scriptures never use the word ‘flat’ so the world cannot be flat either.

Houston we have a problem...

Why? Because the Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldea Lexicon defines it as “a circle, a SPHERE”. Hebrew scholars also say it can mean ‘ROUND’ as well. Did you see that? One of the definitions is a SPHERE, another is ROUND– something flat earth's always disregard. Instead of taking the majority definition, they choose the one that fits their belief and throw away the rest of the definition. This is being disingenuous at best.

BTW didn't God say in His word to never 'add to' or 'take away' from it. Yes He does, twice. Hmmm...

So about the four corners of the earth? Many flat earthers claim this proves the earth is flat. Let us look at what the sages say. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Many flat earthers reject this but again let us look at the ultimate authority... The scriptures!

If only we cold find a passage that clearly defines what the four corners are, then we can clear this up. The Book of Isaiah describes how the Messiah, the Root of Jesse, shall regather his people from...

"And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious." It shall come to pass in that day That the LORD shall set His hand again the second time

To recover the remnant of His people who are left,

From (1) Assyria and Egypt,

From (2) Pathros and Cush,

From (3) Elam and Shinar,

From (4) Hamath and the islands of the sea.

He will set up a banner for the nations, And will assemble the outcasts of Israel, And gather together the dispersed of Judah From THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH."

Isaiah 11:10-12

So according to in-context scripture, we see the four corners refer to the four areas listed as (1), (2), (3) & (4) by God through the prophet Isaiah. So the four corners are areas that God will gather His people from and not that the earth is flat.

So what do we see? That flat earthers IGNORE the definitions of Hebrew words used in scripture and the take a small part of Isaiah 11 verse 12 out of context. Sorry but scripture says to study and show yourself approved. Summary - To them who make so much fuss about this flat earth stuff, I ask the following questions...

Does believing in a flat earth keep anyone from being injured, hurt or killed?

Does it make a doctor a better doctor? A plumber a better plumber?

Does knowing it prevent any dangers, catastrophes or sicknesses?

Does it help our economy or the political climate of our world?

Does it help the spiritual condition of our nation/world?

How does believing in a flat earth help you ‘die to self’ and walk righteously as God shows in scripture?

How does it help in preaching the gospel?

How does it help in making disciples?

How does it help in taking care of orphans and widows?

How does it help me 'be a light' to the nations?

Etc. Etc. Etc.

Fact remains it doesn't do anything of these things.

Funny how not one 'flat earther" can tell me how it helps in matters that God charges us with or in the matters in which we shall be judged - in our words, thoughts and deeds – in our obedience/disobedience to God’s commandments; how we are to walk in the gifts of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, self control & love) etc. It is also not mentioned in the duties and responsibilities under the Old or New Covenant.

IMO this flat earth stuff is just a smoke screen the enemy has put up to distract believers from what is REALLY important during these last days. Another question I have is this… if knowing and believing the earth is flat is SO important, then why did not one godly man, woman, prophet, priest or king speak of this? Why did not Solomon, the wisest person on earth speak about this? Why did not our Messiah, His disciples or Paul, the Apostle to the gentiles, teach on the flat earth? If it is that important we would see at least one teaching on the flat earth but there are none!

So what is important?

We are to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. Solomon said that the whole duty of man was to fear God and obey His commandments ref. Ecclesiastes 12:13. Paul reiterated this in 1 Corinthians 7:19 by saying “circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.”

No mention of a flat earth. Remember to what John wrote in Revelation 14:12 which states...

"Here is the endurance of the saints; those that keep the commandments of God and have faith in Yeshua." Our reward is not based on what we think or believe the shape of the earth is, but rather how we serve the Creator, Yahweh, our Elohim. So if we love Him, how does that manifest in our lives? Consider 1 John 5:1-3…

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”

Revelation 22 states that believers who keep the commandments of God are given the RIGHT to the tree of life. It does not say, the tree of life will be given to those who believe the earth is flat. We also see a great warning in Hebrews 10:26-31 but nowhere are we warned about not believing in a flat earth… “For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:26-31

.

Notice there is no mention of sinners who believe in a round earth or that flat earthers are righteous in God’s eyes. Something to think about.

Shalom
